UK team member, Peter Barnes M0SWN, was the first YOTA 2017 participant to complete the QRP Labs CW transceiver kit. We created a short video to show him making a contact with GB17YOTA, the YOTA 2017 special event station, using his completed kit and the quarter wave vertical SOTA antenna he also made during the Youngsters on the Air summer camp. Our latest vlog introduces RSGB Youth Committee Deputy Chair Milo, 2E0ILO who is leading the UK team at YOTA 2017 next month. Milo went to Friedrichshafen to be part of the YOTA handover ceremony, taking the YOTA key and flag from last year’s host, Austria. Father-and-daughter-team Kevin, G0PEK and Lauren, M6HLR will speak to YOTA teams during the week about their experiences on the UK hills and mountains. Following that, team members will build a portable antenna and take it up the nearest official summit, Wendover Woods, G/CE-005.
Before the event, 11-year-old Lauren plans to have just finished activating all 214 Wainwrights in the Lake District – a great achievement which will give her lots of experiences to share!

The latest YOTA 2017 vlog #12 features Steve Bunting, M0BPQ who is the Station Manager for GB2GP at Gilwell Park.
During the YOTA camp there will be a five-band SES running from morning to night with the call sign GB17YOTA. The RSGB has provided awards for those who make contact – so listen out for the young people on air that week!

Our latest vlog introduces the second member of the UK YOTA 2017 team – Jonathan Sawyer, 2E0UAR is 23 and belongs to the Reading and District Amateur Radio Club.
With under six weeks to go until the event the countdown has begun!
George Dobbs, G3RJV (Hon Secretary) and Graham Firth, G3MFJ (Hon Treasurer) explain why the GQRP Club is delighted to be a Super Supporter of YOTA 2017. Both are long-standing radio amateurs and very well-known in the radio amateur community. Graham says “We feel strongly about encouraging the younger folk to the hobby – and we support it when we can.” Great to see people of all ages supporting this youth event and even trying out a new form of communication to do so!
